Digging In: A harvest of tomato winners

Well, well, that is swell, what you tell.
Reporting in from Santa Fe that the bumper crop is basil.
    Tomatoes, totally tiny.
Saw 2 Nambe farms over the weekend. Goat cheese-making included. I'm heading back for more!
We had an "enchilada composting" party at the Community Farm on Friday evening. Four boxes of federal court case papers, all put to sleep and best and highest use, under 4 inches of manure...The feds got their "doo" and good things will grow from it.
Well wishes to your plot pal, who needs elevated rest and more calcium for her recovery.
With dirt under my fingernails, you grow girl!

I too use gardening to balance my life, to help the rhythm of my breath find the rhythm of the natural world, to quiet the frenziedOverloadedMultitaskingMadness of of my stressed mind. In the garden the work focuses me, quiets me; the low pitched bee buzz soothes me; the color and scents of the late summer garden delight my senses, and suddenly-- PLOOP!-- it is as if I have surfaced from a great, deep pool into the air and sun. Love of gardening is a gift. I owe thanks for this gift and I'd like you to indulge me by letting me post my thank you note here.

Thanks to my Irish aunties for teaching me the practical pleasure of growing food and flowers. I cannot look at the miracle of zinnias, cucumbers, or green beans breaking through the earth without recalling them. Thanks to my wise mother for telling me that, no matter what my worry might be, a few hours work in the garden would put it all in perspective. Not all problems have solutions and few solutions are found through fretting. Thanks to SO, JW and SC for being gardeners with a passion to match my own. I hope we can share the food we've grown with one another soon. Special thanks to my Eric, a man who can dig his own weight in clay soil without breaking a sweat, though a few garden forks have bent along the way. Without him, I'd still be gardening in Iowa, where both soil and rain take all the sporting challenge out of gardening. Finally, thanks for the life we all share on this Earth. It is easy to love fellow gardeners.
